Fundraising Responsibilities

Bethesda-Chevy Chase Crew is a club sport of Montgomery County Public Schools and, as a club sport, it receives no funding from B-CC High School or the county school system. The purchase and maintenance of equipment, coaches' salaries, athlete scholarships, Thompson Boat Center fees and insurance come from parent dues, donations and fund-raising events in the community. 100% team participation in the major fund-raising events planned for each season (specifically, the car washes, the Erg-a-thon and the Wreath Sales) is essential in running a safe and competitive rowing program for our athletes. This year's team fund-raisers include the following activities and events.

Community partnerships

B-CC Crew has partnered with Tototown, a Bethesda-based "daily deals'' organization that helps local groups to fundraise by donating a portion of its revenue to local non-profits and charities.  Every Friday in the month of December, 2011, B-CC Rowing will be Tototown's featured "PonPal" (coupon pal), receiving 20% of the revenue generated by coupon sales on those days.  Members of B-CC crew, alumni, families and friends are encouraged to register at www.tototown.com to learn about and purchase daily deals.

B-CC Crew is also a member of the Amazon Associates program.  Through this program, Amazon.com will rebate up to 15% of all purchases made through the link on the B-CC Rowing web site back to B-CC Crew.  But remember, you MUST buy using linking from this site.  Rebates apply to all categories of goods purchased through Amazon.com - books, electronics, household goods, games and toys, etc.

Spring Auction

The Spring Auction is an evening of fun, cocktails, conversation, good food and entertainment!  Held in May, it provides an opportunity for Crew parents to socialize in a relaxed environment, whilst supporting the team by bidding on items as varied as holiday homes, restaurant meals, paintings, local services and "Chore for Oars", donated by the rowers themselves.  Details for the Spring 2011 auction are on this page.

Car Washes: Fall & Spring
Each team member is expected to participate in the car washes scheduled for this season year. Dates of the car washes are posted on the list serve and the Web site. The car washes will be held at Getty Gas Station on River Road.

CraZy Shorts: Fall  & Spring
At the Erg-a-thon and the Washington Metro Interscholastic Rowing Association Championship Regatta on TBA, the team is selling Val's Crazy Shorts from Canada.

Erg-a-thon: Fall
(ERGATHON FORMS ATTACHED BELOW)
An Ergathon is a classic Crew Team fundraising event where team members row a specified distance on rowing machines (ergs) and ask contributors to sponsor them.  Coxwains participate by coxing rowers while they are “erging.”  In fall 2010, team members erg'd the equivalent of rowing the course of the famous Head of the Charles Regatta – 4800 meters.  Each team member raised or contributed at least $200 in tax-deductible contributions.  For more information see the attached documents below.

You can donate to the ergathon online using PayPal (B-CC Crew Boosters are a 501(c)(3) organization.)

This full-color banner is prominently displayed in several high-profile Washington area venues including the Georgetown, Occoquan and Anacostia waterfronts and downtown Bethesda and in Philadelphia and other away regatta sites during the rowing season.
